Position Description:

This position is responsible for providing technical advice, litigation support services, litigation support systems administration, and customer support on behalf of our customer, the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Southern District of Florida.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or at least 5 years of relevant job experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Access).
  • Experience with tools for gathering, tracking, processing, reviewing, organizing, and producing case information.
  • Knowledge of software to include databases, spreadsheets, and word processing applications used for organization and management of litigation information and documents, presentation of complex and voluminous evidence or production of graphic demonstrative evidence.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining litigation support equipment.
  • Experience performing testing, quality assurance, configuration and maintenance of Litigation Support Systems.
  • Knowledge of Federal Civil Rules of Procedure and Evidence, local rules, Department of Justice (DOJ) policies and guidelines, and district practices.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Government DOJ Security Clearance.
  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation options, systems capabilities, and support services available to aid in case preparation, trial preparation and trial presentation.
  • Perform a wide range of information systems analysis, development and installation in support of USAO litigation support activities for assigned cases.
  • In coordination with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), investigators, federal agents, and paralegal specialists, develop familiarity with the details of the case and the government's strategy for proving it.
  • Analyze litigation support requirements to develop or recommend appropriate strategies to meet litigation needs. Recommend alternative methods and promote the use of automated approaches as well as visual means.
  • In coordination with AUSAs, develop project management strategies and tools for gathering, tracking, processing, reviewing, organizing, and producing case information in an effective, efficient, and defensible manner.
  • Recommend a variety of software packages including database, spreadsheet, and word processing applications based on which software would be most effective for organization and management of information and documents, presentation of complex and voluminous evidence, or production of graphic demonstrative evidence.
  • Recommend best practices and procedures for processing information as part of case preparation.
  • The contractor provides litigation support services, including preparation for settlement negotiations, and trial preparation and presentation, in conjunction with the U SAO's Litigation Support Manager.
  • The contractor defines and creates case databases for processing electronically stored information (ESI), case review, production, and trial presentation.
  • In conjunction and consultation with the assigned AUSAs, review, tag as necessary, and analyze ESI and other documents and information obtained as part of the government's investigation and organize such information in the best way for the investigation team.
  • Plan and coordinate efforts with other agencies or offices involved in litigation team activities, including recommending best practices and procedures for collecting electronically stored information in a defensible manner using available software.
  • With AUSAs and support staff, organize voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as processing ESI, scanning, indexing and production of documents into a database.
  • Assure that documents are organized for efficient electronic storage and retrieval by processing ESI, defining deduplication scope, quality control, preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria and indexing databases.
  • Prepare graphical presentations, demonstrative exhibits and trial presentations.
  • Coordinate with the Litigation Technology Service Center and vendors as needed.
  • Install, configure, and maintain litigation support equipment.
  • Set up and maintain trial presentation equipment.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of litigation support technology to ensure that it is responsive to the attorney and case needs, and that it represents the best methodology available.
  • Perform testing, quality assurance, configuration, and maintenance of Litigation Support (LS) resources.
  • Resolve hardware/software interface and interoperability problems, optimize systems performance, and identify components to improve overall systems performance.
  • Manage and operate a variety of electronics, including PCs, laptops, printers, plotters, audio-video devices such as HDMI TVs, DVD/Blu-ray players, eDiscovery processing computers and equipment to conceptualize exhibits and complete special presentation projects.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer reported incidents.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain hardware and software.
  • Provide customer training, to include orientation for new users.
  • Assess and provide feedback on problematic trends and patterns in customer support requirements. Provide recommendations to resolve cited problems.
